Kaleb turns 7

We started Kaleb's birthday off with a swim party at our YMCA.  He was able to invite 20+ friends!  And most of them came!!  Angry Birds are a favorite of Kaleb's right now, so that was our theme.  We had an hour before swimming when we played Pin the tail on the Red bird, Angry Birds Space, had cake, and opened a gazillion presents:)  I was really impressed how well-behaved these kids were, especially considering most of them were boys!  Kassidy was my big helper for the first game.

Cake time!  I just cannot believe he is 7 now!!!
A little bashful for the birthday song...
Wow he really can blow!  I should have used more candles.
Luckily we had a spare cake on hand because they kids ate it up:)
Karson with his best friend Sierra...they have already made plans for the big day!

Kaleb received so many great gifts...Legos, army guys and planes, Angry Bird stuff, and monster trucks just to name a few.
Pool time!!!  These kids were non-stop the whole hour.  We definitely got our moneys worth between the swimming and life guards.  Kaleb was just so thrilled to be able to play and swim with his friends (and cousins) in the pool, since we never could manage this many on our own at our pool.

These two cousins have been pretty inseparable lately...sleepovers every weekend:)
 Cool shark fin goggles.

Our littlest guest...Baby Kate!  That's what all my kiddos call her at least.

Fast forward a few days to his actual birthday day...cinnamon rolls for the birthday boy!

After school he finally got to open his gifts from us.  Glow-in-dark stars for his bedroom.

Revolving solar system also for his bedroom...he's really into the planets.  He looks out the window to see Jupiter every night!!!

I just couldn't pass up this Angry Birds T-shirt...he will have to grow into it.
 Nano Speed race track.

Can you guess where Kaleb picked for his special birthday dinner out?  Red Robin...in case you don't know, they have the BEST burgers!!!  But he loves their macaroni:)
Our waitress surprised him with a free sundae and a birthday song!  He only ate some of the vanilla ice cream of course, so the rest of us helped him finish it:)

Grandma and Grandpa got him a brand new bike!  His favorite color, too:)  He's super speedy now!
The Schaefer cousins got him this cool loops and loom craft that we had when we were little.  He was very excited to see the finished product!
Mama got him a cool new OSU backpack and this neat baseball outfit!
First of all I'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who sent cards, texts, gift cards, presents, and well wishes for this little guys 7th birthday.  It really was a special few days for him:)

Now onto his well visit.  Kaleb weighed in at a whopping 34.6 lbs.  I know that doesn't sound like very much to most of you out there, but we take any weight gain we can get.  He gained 1 1/2 pounds this past year.  Again, not a huge jump but at least it is a jump.  That puts him in the .04 percentile for his age.  For height, he measured 44.5 inches, also a 1 1/2 inch gain since last year.  That puts him in the 5th percentile for age.  For BMI he is at 12.28, below 2nd percentile, down from 12.55 last year.  So what does all this mean???  Well, the best I can figure out is that he is definitely growing, but at a slow rate.  He is still picky but eating MUCH better!!!  He still refuses to drink anything besides water, so we started him on Pediasure. That will at least make sure he gets all of his nutrients in each day and a little extra calories, too.  So far he likes the vanilla flavor and drinks it without too many reminders:)

I think we will always struggle getting Kaleb to eat "normally".  However, he does eat a good amount of food each day.  I think the main problem is that the foods he does eat just aren't very high in calories, except a few.  Some of his favorites are spaghetti with sauce, tuna helper (no big chunks of tuna), PB sandwiches, yogurt, popcorn chicken, cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, bananas, and as always pancakes...but planet pancakes!  He is getting much better at trying new foods and has found out that 99% of the time he actually does like what he tries:)  I've managed to sneak in some oatmeal in his favorite chocolate chip cookies, very veggie sauce on spaghetti, corn and black beans mushed up in the food processor in his cheese quesadillas, and other little sneaky tricks.  Just don't tell him my secrets!!!

Kaleb is having a very good year so far in 1st grade:)  It's still very easy for him, but he is challenged in reading, writing, and comprehension.  We check out tons of books from the library also to keep him busy.  His hand writing has improved immensely since Kindergarten!  He still picks up on things very quickly, and many times answers Kassidy's homework problems when we're all doing homework together.  He has done real well with adding and subtracting and is picking up multiplication now with big sis.  I'm just so glad that he doesn't have to struggle with learning, his struggles with eating is enough!

Kaleb is still my big sweetie pie and very caring towards his friends and family.  He always runs up and hugs people with a huge smile on his face:)  He and Karson have become best buds lately and will play together for hours on end!  It's so cute listening to them pretend together and get along so well.  Keith has been waiting and waiting for the day when the boys wanted to sit and watch football with him...well that day has come!  Kaleb is getting into watching football now, learning the rules and teams, and just loves to cheer on the Browns with Daddy.  Needless to say, Keith is in heaven when this happens!!!  Soon enough they'll be traveling to Ohio to watch the Browns in person!

Well, I hope that gives you a little glimpse into our first boy's life and personality.  He is such a blessing to us and makes us laugh so much with his funny little sayings and noises and most of all his famous belly-laugh:)  We sure do love you Kaleb!!!!!  Happy Birthday cutie:)

Falling behind on fall posts...

Well we have been busy lately!  I joined Kaleb's class for a trip to the Pumpkin Patch at the beginning of October.  It was such a nice day, sunny and warm, and all the kids had a blast.  They had a hay ride first, followed by a small corn maize, bounce house, small farm animals to see, 2 large and very muddy pigs, pumpkin patch, picnic lunch and a really cool play area.  We were all hot and sweaty and very tired by the end of the trip:)

Kassidy was invited to a Hallween costume party this year.  It was her first invite to a boy/girl party at a friends house where parents didn't need to stay.  Needless to say Keith and I were a bit nervous just dropping her off so we all stayed.  The kids enjoyed jumping on the trampoline, playing games, and eating pizza and treats while us adults chatted.  The highlight of the night was definitely the paint the kids got to put on their hair...they were all fascinated watching it glow in the black light!!!  Everyone had a great time and all the kids behaved and played really well together.  It's nice to see Kassidy's classmates actually do get along and none of the teenage "stuff" yet:)

Kassidy and her cousin Sara have been playing a lot together and sleepovers almost every weekend.  It's wonderful to see them getting along so well!!!  When they were younger they didn't always get along because they are so similar...only girl, very controlling, etc.  Now that they are a little bit older they just LOVE to play together:)  And of course they still love to tell the one boy younger than them both what to do...and he does it!
We were blessed with some gorgeous days this October.  Lots of sunshine and warm weather:)  Perfect for a trip to the park!  We had a family outing and played soccer, football, lots of running games, played on the playground, and had a picnic lunch.  It was the highlight of our weekend:)
Kassidy showing off her new skill...hanging upside down by only her knees!  We have been working on this one for awhile...she's had to get enough courage to finally do it:)
These next two pics tell a story.  Kassidy and I always have a competition to see who can do the most monkey bars at a time.  Last time she beat me by 1!  I was determined to beat her this time!!!  I went first and almost made it the whole way around...pretty good I thought.  She went next and got to my spot and kept going!  She beat me again!  I guess those monkey bars at school get a lot of wear.

Daddy showed Kassidy how to jump into the swing to get yourself going.
This is always a fun spot at the park:)  We take turns being the shop owner and the customer.
Keith took these next few pics to show our train down the slide:)  First Kaleb...
then Kassidy...
then Karson...and yes, ME!!!  I really am too big to slide down correctly.  I really slowed us down.
Kaleb is in Cub Scouts this year.  There are tons of electives in his handbook that you can choose to do.  Since he LOVES balloons we decided to make this balloon bouquet from sticks we found at the park.  It was super easy!  Just take a can and cover it with paper.  Put stickers on the paper, fill the can with sand, attach balloons to sticks and put the sticks into the sand.
Pumpkin time!  By now the kids know our rule...you have to be able to carry your pumpkin!
Luckily she didn't have to carry hers far:)

Daddy carving the world's smallest jack-o-lantern!
Sara got to help with the big pumpkin!

Puppy dog Karson:)

Kids showing off their art work from the pumpkin patch.  A puppy, Clemson paw, a ghost with a moon, and a ghost.
Off to trick-or-treat!!!  Here's Batman, Mario, and a dancer:)
This pic just cracks me up!!!  The mustache covers his whole mouth and both cheeks:)
Karson and I headed home early since he was getting tired, but Kassidy and Kaleb kept going for another hour with Daddy!  We had sooooo much candy this year!!!  We participated in something fun this year...a local dentist gives you $1/lb of candy donated.  They also donate $1/lb to the Children's Hospital and then donate all the candy to the military along cards the kids make.
Last we have Kaleb at a recent Cub Scout Pack Meeting.  They had a fun activity relating to the different character traits a cub scout should have.

And the new bobcat badge!!!  Way to go Kaleb:)  When they received the badge they told us to pin it upside down on their uniform.  When they do a good deed you could turn it around and sew it on.  The next day or so I asked both boys to bring down something from upstairs.  Karson refused to do it.  Kaleb, without being told or getting upset, brought his AND Karson's down for me.  That was a super good deed:)
Stay tuned for Kaleb's b-day...
