Kassidy turns 6 ! ! !

From this...

to this...

Where does the time go??? It really doesn't seem possible that my little girl is 6...WOW!!! Kassidy has really grown up this past year. She's such a BIG help with her little brothers, setting the table, cleaning the table, picking up her room/toys, getting up to her alarm and getting herself dressed and doing her hair, brushing her teeth well, feeding the dogs, the list goes on and on. Not to mention how far she's come in school since August. She is reading so much and sounding out words she's not sure of. It's just the neatest thing to hear her read to us:)

Kassidy has a kind heart, making friends with a girl at school that none of the other girls like and playing with another girl that's not in her class at recess when her friends don't want to play with her. She's starting to catch on to the lessons being taught at church and at home about God and all of his awesome qualities which is really amazing to see! She's been very generous with giving of her money and toys to those less fortunate...not being told to do so but wanting to do it.

She's still a daddy's girl and continues to tell him she'll always give him a hug whenever he wants one:)

Of course with any little girl comes attitude. I'm just not sure where it comes from! She's not too bad but we're definitely still working with some sassiness. I'm sure this will be an ongoing thing through the teenage years and beyond. Better to deal with it now, right?

Kassidy just adores her baby brother Karson and will do anything from feeding him to playing with him even to changing dirty diapers:) She's great at it, too!

Kassidy has her 6 yr well visit Wed but I think her stats are pretty close to this: 39 lbs and 44 in. She's grown so much taller in a year! We'll see what percentile those are in but probably pretty average. Well, all except for her tiny feet! She's only an 8 1/2-9 now...even her cousin who's 3 wears bigger shoes than her:)

Keith and I are just so proud of the girl Kassidy is becoming. It's just incredible watching her grow and change and figure out what she likes and doesn't like, watching her interact with her friends, trying to figure out who she really is. She enjoys dance and cheerleading so much and is quite good at both:) With her being the oldest we've definitley had some trial and error with what works and doesn't work and we've been blessed to have such great friends and family for wisdom and guidance. We pray that she continues to grow and mature in a way that's pleasing to not only us but also God, that we find new and creative ways to teach her about God and how much he loves her, and that she continues to have a kind and caring heart for her friends and family. We love you so much Kassidy:)

We started off the birthday festivities with an "Almost" Sleepover! Kassidy invited 6 girls from her class and her cousin Sara. The girls arrived at 6pm. We played a few games and then made pizzas.

Sara, Courtney, and Kassidy

Caroline, Jillian, and Sammy

While the pizzas cooked we played dress-up and had a fashion show down the runway. This was hilarious:) They even had their own model strut and posed at the end for some pics.

Jillian, Kassidy, Sara, Caroline, and Sammy

Courtney and Emslie were judges for the fashion show...it was unanimous that Kassidy won!

Somehow Karson got dressed up, too:) I'm not quite sure he liked it though.

Next we played more games (they loved playing games)

Here is the cake Kassidy helped me make...
It's supposed to look like girls in sleeping bags:) It was a lot of fun to make!

Blowing out the candles became a group effort:)
Present time! Apparently Kassidy told her friends she wanted Littlest Pet Shop so that's mostly what she got:)
Princess stamps and stationary
Movie time! The girls wanted all the lights off and actually watched the whole movie sitting still and quiet...4 bags of popcorn helped:) Around 9:30 the girls got their second wind. Good thing their dads came to pick them up at 10...Mommy needed some sleep:)
On her actual birthday, we woke her up with breakfast in bed.Sleepy girl
Happy Birthday big sis:)
She was so excited about opening presents so we let her open one early. She loves her new lunch box:)
We went to Pizza Inn for lunch (her pick) then Kassidy and I went to the circus. Keith had tickets from work for the Verizon Wireless box (he could only get 2 for Sat so he took Kaleb, and 2 for Sunday). Kassidy thought it was a real treat to have all the popcorn she wanted:) The circus was just amazing!!!
We let her get 1 thing from the circus and she picked a baby tiger inside a pink purse (he liked the popcorn, too!)
After the circus we headed home to open presents. All she asked for was clothes and that's pretty much what she got:)After opening and showing up what each present was, she carefully folded and put into a neat pile all her new clothes. It totally reminded me of ME!!! A neat freak already:)
Trying on her new outfits...she just LOVED her new dresses!!!!! And can't wait to wear them!

Lots of new play clothes for summer and flip flops from her brothers
Even a new workout outfit like mommy!
Kassidy helped me make, frost, and decorate brownies for her special birthday class treat:)
We topped off the evening with a stop to Cold Stone Creamery for some ice cream:) YUMMY!!!!! (We're signed up for the birthday club and get a free ice cream on our bdays!)
Of course, Karson loved it, too!
Quick pic outside after ice cream
Well, it was a long birthday weekend but definitely very fun:) Kassidy had such a great time with her girlfriends. They ALL want to come back over to play, but probably just 1 or 2 at a time. We have a few more people who wanted to help celebrate Kassidy's birthday, but we'll do it in 2 weeks along with Karson's birthday. THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who called, send cards, gave gifts, and helped make Kassidy's 6th birthday a very special one:) We love you all!!!!!

Kassidy's reward

Kassidy's school has a color system for behavior. Each day they start on green and if they have a bad behavior they have to flip to the next color. Each day is recorded in their binder for the parents to see. They started after a few days of school and Kassidy really caught on! She went almost 4 whole months straight with green (the highest color). To make her understand what a big deal it was to have excellent behavior in school we rewarded her with ice skating recently. It's a very hard thing to teach a young child, especially if you can't ice skate very well yourself! She did a great job with the little "walker" assisting. She was getting better by the end but really loved being pushed around fast by Daddy.

Of course, there were still plenty of spills! But no tears...only big smiles:)

I love this pic of Kassidy with Daddy.
Kassidy has already informed us that she'll stay on green the rest of the school year so she can go ice skating again:) We'll see...

Kids do the darndest things!

#1 Even though Karson does not crawl or walk yet, if you leave him alone in a room long enough he'll work his way to the other side. He loves to roll all over the place! Well, we were having a late dinner the other night and because Karson had already eaten we let him play in the family room. When it got quiet I heard a little noise and jumped out of my chair saying, "I think Karson's in the fireplace!" Keith ran over and saw that he was indeed playing with the little stones inside the fireplace. (Don't worry, it wasn't on...we're not THAT bad of parents!) He looked in his mouth and sure enough he was chomping on a big stone! Thank God we got it out but boy was he mad when Keith took it away!

#2 Kaleb chose this silly face to show us:) Notice what finger he has in his nose?!

Better late than never...right?

In January, Keith and I went to Vegas for 5 days. It was a business trip for Keith, but I got to tag along this time and have some fun and relaxation without the kiddos. It was a really good break from everyday life, a chance to catch up on my sleep, be spoiled by going out to eat for every meal and having our room cleaned every day, see my sister-in-law and some friends, and enjoy some quality time with my hubby:) For some reason, Blogger puts the pics in reverse order so the trip is backwards but it will do...

Our last night I was treated to the Beatles Love show by Cirque d'Solei (however you spell that I don't really know). It was a REALLY good show with lots of great Beatles songs telling their story from beginning to end of their career together. It always amazes me the tricks and stunts these talented people do...truly amazing!!!Before the show we went for dinner at Eva Longoria's new restaurant, Beso. It was in the City Center mall, part of our humongous hotel. We didn't see anyone famous, but the food was so delicious:)

Saturday afternoon Keith's friend Mike (college friend and groomsmen in our wedding) took us to race at Pole Position. We definitely have to get one of these in our town! SO much fun and trust me, the cars go FAST!!!

Mike and Jen's little boy, Trent, having a snack while watching the big boys race.
This night we hit the local bar for their well-known half off margaritas. I could not believe the pages and pages of margarita concoctions...too many to choose from! Well, not really:)
Here's Krish and Amber (they came with us to Vegas)
Mike and Jen (live in Vegas and love it)
The boys
The ladies (most of us)

Beth Ann, my favorite sister-in-law:) She lives in Vegas, too.
Our hotel had a pretty fountain that lit up at night. I caught a few good pics

We walked from City Center to MGM Grand, then back the other way all the way down to Fashion Show Mall. Now, if you're not familiar with Las Vegas I'll be the first to tell you...DO NOT walk that far!!! It's a lot further than you realize! I'm so glad we met Beth Ann there and she was able to drive us back down the strip to our hotel...thanks Beth Ann:) We took lots of pics of the different hotels, but just posted a few of the newer ones since our last visit.
When we walked into MGM Grand they were just starting to feed the lions. Talk about perfect timing! It was incredible seeing the lion and lioness so close-up. They're much bigger in person. The trainers threw food up onto the glass so we could see them real close-up and you could hear their teeth hitting the glass. Pretty cool!
This is Aria, the hotel we stayed in which just opened in mid-Dec. It's part of City Center which is absolutely huge! I think there's about 5 different hotels and a mall. It's big enough that it has it's own monorail between hotels!
City Center (some of it anyway)
View from our room...very pretty when all lit up at night:)
Entrance to casino in Aria
A really cool waterfall along the front entrance
The mall in City Center was still being worked on but these stairs were gorgeous! SO fancy!!! I don't think I recognized more than 3 stores in this mall...Tiffany's, Kate Spade, and Luis Vuiton. But I don't even shop in those. It was fun to browse though:)

Look closely at this next pic...glass containers filled with little twisters!

These next pics are actually from our first night in town. Keith and Krish were actually there for CES (the biggest consumer electronics show of the year). At night, companies host their customers to big parties with food, drinks, and desserts, in cool suites or clubs to show their appreciation. There's a real funny story behind this first pic. See the lights on the floor behind me? They're actually under about 4 in of water along the wall. This is supposed to be a hallway of some sort but no one realized there was a little "pool" there and kept tripping and falling into it! So, they put these chairs up to stop the falls. The first few were guys and they just got their shoes wet. Then a girl tripped and fell flat on her face. She was just soaked! Poor thing had to leave to get dry and changed.

This was probably the coolest thing we saw...a pool on the balcony of this huge suite that overlooked the strip. How neat would that be to actually swim there when it's warm outside???

Huge chair beside the pool also with a great view. Our first dinner out. We thought the service was slow because they just opened up, but it was slow everywhere in our hotel! Great food, tho! So glad the kids weren't there. There's no way we could've waited that long.

Well, like I said it was a GREAT break but glad to be home and back in our normal routine:) The kids were so good for the sitters while we were gone. No crying on the phone to us or anything! I'm definitely looking forward to this treat every year!!!
